Naturism and mindfulness

Mindfulness is all over the place these days. For anybody interested in self development, mindfulness is almost a must. As Wikipedia defines it: “Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to the internal and external experiences occurring in the present moment”.

Lots of naturist will say they are feeling better when naked, they feel more “connected” to their environment and to others, they feel more “themselves”. The same thing goes with people practicing yoga, meditation or other mindfulness techniques.

It is interesting to note that in the same Wikipedia article, “bare attention” is mentioned: Georges Dreyfus has expressed unease with the definition of mindfulness as “bare attention” or “nonelaborative, nonjudgmental, present-centered awareness”. Naturism is nonjudgmental as well.

The site Relaxlikeaboss.com defines mindfulness as “the practice of being consciously aware in the present moment, without judging your experience.”. Being conscious, without judging, are inherent part mindfulness, and of naturism.

With those definitions in mind, I was able to link the dots of mindfulness and naturism that appeared during my morning naked meditation. I have been practicing naked meditation, naked yoga and naked workouts for years now, and nothing feels better than practicing those activities naked. Because of the increased awareness of your body as it touches the floor, of the air that you feel on your bare skin, I truly believe nudity increases mindfulness and allows to feel better, more relaxed and better connected to the present moment.

What do you think? Share your experience of naturism and mindfulness in the comment section! Thank you!

  1. Couldn’t agree more – just finished three months of teaching tai chi naked on a sunny beach. The sense of connection with self and nature will set me up for the winter. Also had the benefit of evening yoga classes, naked, in a shaded glen behind the dunes with a wonderful teacher. Sheer heaven.
