Alma and I created this 24-page book for a very precise moment: the threshold before a first naturist experience, when curiosity is real but the imagination is still making the room feel larger, stranger and more demanding than it may actually be.
It is not another checklist telling people to be confident. It is a calm companion for the imagined room, the real room, the practical reassurance of one towel and one walk, the conduct that makes respect visible, and the moment when the body begins to understand that it does not need to explain itself.
A small book made to be kept
The Kindle edition is there for readers who want the book immediately and privately.
The paperback is something different. It is a small horizontal book with a full-color interior, made to remain on a coffee table, beside a favorite chair, or in a guest room. It can also be given to a naturist friend, a curious partner, or someone who may never become a naturist but would like to understand what makes the experience feel so ordinary and freeing to those who do.
This matters to me. Naturist books do not always need to look clinical, defensive or hidden. They can be beautiful objects: calm enough to leave in sight and useful enough to pass from one person to another.
A special edition for Inner Room subscribers
The book began inside The Inner Room, and paid subscribers receive their own special Signature Color PDF edition as part of the subscription.
That is one of the membership benefits I want to make tangible. The Inner Room is not only a stream of weekly essays and stories. It should also give readers complete objects worth keeping: short books, guides and literary companions that can be returned to later.
The Inner Room costs USD 7 per month. The standalone Kindle edition is USD 9.99 on Amazon. In other words, the membership is about 30% less than the standalone digital-book price, while paid subscribers receive the special PDF edition alongside the weekly paid writing and the growing subscriber library.
If you are already a paid subscriber, you do not need to buy the Kindle edition to receive the book. Your PDF edition is part of your membership and will arrive separately.

The first of a new kind of Nude House book
The First Hour Without Armor is deliberately modest in size. Its purpose is not to say everything about becoming a naturist. Its purpose is to stay close to one meaningful hour and help the reader enter it with less noise.
That is the shape I want these short books to take: focused, beautifully made, grounded in ordinary naturist life, and useful beyond the day they are published.
