A publishing house cannot claim to care about a culture while supporting only its own work.
That thought has been with me as I build The Nude House. I want this house to publish strong essays, useful guidance, fiction and books. I want it to grow. I want it to become commercially solid enough to keep doing serious naturist work for years. But I do not want growth to make the house inward-looking.
Naturist culture becomes stronger when its independent voices recognize one another, read one another and, when they can, support one another materially.
That is why The Nude House, through me, is becoming a Founding Member of Planet Nude.
By “Founding Member,” I mean Planet Nude’s current Founding membership tier: a deliberate way to support its work at a higher level. I am not claiming that The Nude House helped found Planet Nude when it launched in 2023. The point is not a title. The point is the support behind it.
An Alignment I Can Feel
Planet Nude and Nude & Happy are not the same publication, and I would not want them to be.
Planet Nude describes itself as an independent media project exploring nudity through culture, history, politics, art and everyday life. Its work includes journalism, essays, interviews, comics, podcasts and fiction. The Nude House has its own centre of gravity: lived naturism, beginner comfort, reflective essays, literary fiction and books that help nudity become a deeper and more ordinary part of life.
The voices are different. The editorial choices are different. The two publications come from different people, places and experiences. Yet the alignment is clear to me.
Both take nudity seriously without making it solemn. Both understand that the naked body belongs in culture, thought, art, stories and ordinary conversation—not only in resort listings or defensive explanations. Both reject the idea that nudity must become spectacle before it deserves attention. Both are trying to create work that is intelligent, nonsexual, human and useful to the wider naturist world.
Planet Nude’s community spaces make that position especially visible. Its Discord is explicitly described as a nonsexual naturist space, not a dating service or an adult-content platform. Nudity is treated as context rather than spectacle. That sentence could sit comfortably inside the values of The Nude House.
Alignment does not require sameness. It requires recognizing a shared piece of ground and deciding that the work being done there deserves support.
Independent Does Not Mean Isolated
I care deeply about editorial independence.
The Nude House must remain free to develop its own voice, publish its own convictions and disagree where disagreement is honest. Planet Nude makes the same distinction in its own description of partnerships: working alongside other naturist organizations does not surrender its editorial independence.
Supporting another publication is not a merger. It is not an endorsement of every sentence it has published or will publish. It does not create an obligation to agree.
It says something simpler: this voice adds value to the naturist world, and I want it to remain present.
That distinction matters because independent naturist media is fragile. The audience is smaller than the audience for mainstream culture. Platforms can misunderstand nonsexual nudity. Payment systems, social networks and advertising rules can become obstacles. Serious work still requires time: researching, writing, editing, commissioning, illustrating, publishing, moderating and answering readers.
Independence sounds romantic until the invoices arrive.
Reader support is what allows independence to become durable. Planet Nude keeps its daily work free-first while using paid subscriptions to support the time and people behind it. The Nude House follows its own model, with free public work, paid membership and books. In both cases, money is not the meaning of the work. It is part of what allows the work to continue.
If we value independent naturist voices, admiration is welcome. Material support is stronger.
Supporting the Community Must Become a Verb
The naturist community is easy to praise in the abstract.
We can say that naturists should stand together. We can celebrate body freedom, acceptance and the need for better representation. We can share a post occasionally and feel that we have done our part.
Sometimes that is genuinely useful. Sharing introduces a voice to someone new. A thoughtful comment encourages a writer. A link helps a good article travel further. But community also asks for concrete acts.
It means joining organizations, supporting publications, buying books, visiting naturist places, paying artists and writers when we can, contributing experience, and taking part in conversations with generosity. Nobody has to do all of those things. Not everyone can afford a paid membership. Support should never become a test of naturist virtue.
Those of us who can help should nevertheless be honest about the choice in front of us. If we want a richer naturist culture, some of us must help pay for the people building it.
For The Nude House, taking a Planet Nude Founding membership is one such act. It is a modest way of saying that the wider ecosystem matters. Nude & Happy does not become stronger if every other thoughtful naturist publication disappears. We become stronger when readers can move among several trusted voices, encounter different perspectives and discover that naturist culture is larger than any single site.
What Planet Nude Adds
Planet Nude brings breadth and rhythm to the community.
It publishes daily and reaches across journalism, history, culture, politics, art, comics, podcasts and fiction. That range matters because naturism does not live in only one compartment of human life. It touches law, public space, family, creativity, identity, leisure, memory and the way bodies are represented.
The Nude House brings something complementary. Our work leans into lived experience, literary reflection, beginner trust, continuing story worlds and books that readers can keep. I am interested in what happens when nudity stops being an event and becomes part of the atmosphere of a life, a friendship, a mystery, a marriage, a working day or a home.
Planet Nude often widens the frame. The Nude House often moves deeper into a room inside it. That is not competition. It is a healthier cultural landscape.
Naturism needs organizations that defend rights and places. It needs clubs, resorts and beaches where people can meet. It needs archives that protect its history. It needs photographers and artists who can show naked life without reducing it to consumption. It needs journalists willing to investigate. It needs essayists willing to question. It needs fiction writers willing to imagine worlds in which nudity is ordinary. It needs readers who keep all of that alive.
No single publication can do every job well. That is precisely why mutual support matters.
A Membership, and a Promise to Stay Ourselves
The Nude House is becoming a Planet Nude Founding Member because I feel a real alignment between the two projects and because supporting the naturist community should be more than a sentence in an About page. This membership does not change who we are.
Planet Nude will remain Planet Nude. The Nude House will remain The Nude House. Evan and his contributors will make their choices. I will make mine, alongside the voices and standards of this house. We will not always approach every subject in the same way, and that independence is worth protecting.
What changes is that our respect becomes tangible.
We are placing a small stone under another part of the naturist house so that it can keep standing. In return, the whole culture becomes a little less lonely and a little more durable.
That is enough reason for me.
