Renewing Your Wardrobe: Ditching Clothes for Spring

Spring’s energy is building here, even if the air still carries a hint of winter chill. The longer light makes me restless in the best way, and every year I answer that restlessness with my seasonal clothing purge. It’s become a quiet ritual, almost meditative, that feels perfectly aligned with naturism’s love for simplicity and freedom.

I pull everything out, coats, sweaters, heavy pants from the colder months, and shirts, shorts and t-shirts from warmer ones, and spread them across the bed or floor. One by one, I hold each item. Does this spark joy? Does it bring love and comfort, or has it become just habit? Marie Kondo’s question has stuck with me since I first read her books years ago. For me, it’s not always a dramatic “spark”, sometimes it’s a gentle yes of usefulness and ease, sometimes a clear no of weight or restriction. Pieces that once felt necessary now feel like barriers. They go into the donate pile with thanks for their service.

By the end, my wardrobe is lighter: a few versatile covers for unexpected cool evenings, towels, simple sandals. Space opens up, literally and mentally. Less to wash, less to store, less to think about. The ecological side pleases me too, fewer clothes mean less consumption, less laundry water and energy, more harmony with the season’s shift.

The best part arrives right after. With the purge done, I step into bare time more fully. Morning coffee on the porch naked, sun warming skin, breeze moving freely. No fabric between me and the world. That first warm day feels like true renewal, body breathing, mind clear, everything lighter.

This ritual reminds me why naturism fits so naturally with spring: shedding what’s unnecessary to embrace what’s essential.
